Upon her high school graduation, Jolene Perry was immediately hired as a Principal Dancer by the Alaska Contemporary Dance Company (ACDC).

She soon relocated to New York City, where she studied under some of the best and brightest dance masters including Luigi, Phil Black, Bill Hastings, Chet Walker, Tony Stevens, Rhee & Rennie Gold, David Howard and Finis Young. Ms. Jolene advanced with more intensive training at the world-renowned Paul Taylor and Martha Graham Schools and was brought on as an apprentice dancer with the Paul Taylor Company, learning classic pieces from their repertoire.

Ms. Jolene also began vocal training under the direction of Doug Houston and Jim Canton in addition to acting and commercial classes at the Weist-Barron Studios in NYC where she discovered her acting mentor, Jeffrey Dunn.  Mr. Dunn eventually cast her in numerous regional and international tours. Her extensive musical theatre experience started with the national tour of Funny Girl, which started an 8 year run of continuous tours including  West Side Story (role of “Anybodys”), Oklahoma! (5 Tours as dancer/understudy for Ado Annie), Peter Pan (as Peter Pan), Pippin (dancer) and The Robber Bridegroom. Following her national and international touring experience, Ms. Jolene became principal dancer for the Phoenix Dance Ensemble in Phoenix AZ for 2 years.

Ms. Perry’s teaching credits include Broadway Dance Center, Manhattan Dance Theater, Studio Maestro in New York City, and the Conservatory of Dance in Anchorage, Alaska. She has also taught master workshops in Jazz and Tap throughout California.

Jolene Perry owner, artistic director and dance instructor

As the Owner/Artistic Director of PDS, Ms. Jolene has developed curriculums for dance classes of all levels and ages based on a child’s emotional and anatomical readiness.  Under her direction, Progressive Dance Studio has not only grown to more than five times its initial student enrollment, but it has also evolved into a more diverse dance school by offering both the traditional and commercial training styles.

In 2002 Ms. Perry founded the Synergy Dance Company, a 501(c) (3) community-based pre-professional dance company.  The Synergy Dance Company’s purpose is to foster excellence in dance and performance, and to participate in Dance Competitions and Conventions.
