What Can You Expect at Your Synergy Dance Company Audition?

    The Audition Process

Our Progressive Dance Studio dance instructors and choreographers provide a welcoming and nurturing environment for the dancers and provide a safe and fun atmosphere while they are auditioning. When the dancer arrives and checks-in they will be given a number to wear on their leotard.

The dancers will then go into the studio where they will warm-up and learn a dance combination in Ballet, Jazz, and Contemporary. Each audition session is approximately 30-60 minutes per style and includes across the floor progressions, improvisation exercises, and learning choreography. Dancers will then perform each combination for the teachers and choreographers in groups of 4-5 dancers.

Each dancer will be judged on their dance technique, stage presence, confidence, and showmanship. Progressive Dance Studio will notify parents of the results within two weeks after the auditions.

    What should you bring?

Dress in proper dance attire and wear appropriate footwear.  Jazz shoes for jazz, barefoot or “toe undies” for Contemporary, sneakers for Hip Hop, and tap shoes for Tap. Water and snacks are recommended if auditioning for multiple sessions. Bottled water is available for sale for $1.00.

What are we looking for in a Synergy Dance Company dancer?

Progressive Dance Studio is looking for dancers who love dance and are able and willing to commit to the Synergy Dance Company schedule for a full year.

Dancing in the Synergy Dance Company requires a large commitment of time and dedication from both the dancer and their parents. We are looking for dancers and parents with a positive outlook, who will support their fellow parents and dancers on the team and most importantly find joy in the experience of being a part of the Synergy Dance Company family. Along with their accelerated growth as dancers, your child will make new friendships, learn team building, develop discipline, improve their confidence, and have a lot of fun!

Dancers must attend all classes and rehearsals. Classes can be anywhere from 2 days a week to 5 days a week depending on the specific company. Dance convention and dance competition attendance are mandatory as dancers on the team depend on each other for precision and spacing in the dances.

Parents must plan accordingly, such as planning vacations around competition season. Competition season takes place during March and April annually. Synergy Dance Company expects to compete 4 to 5 weekends each season. Competitions are a commitment for the entire weekend. Schedules are released yearly in August for the following dance season.

The commitment of being a member of Synergy Dance Company also includes competition fees as well as fees for costumes.
Audition slots fill up quickly. It is recommended dancers sign up to audition as early as possible to guarantee placement during the audition period.

We can’t wait to see you dance and earn a place in our award-winning  Synergy Dance Company.

Please call us at (201) 894-1333 or email the studio if you have any questions or need help deciding which option is right for your child.  We want to make sure every dancer feels confident and excited for their audition so that they are free to dance their best.
